Things we love: Pâtisseries à Paris

While looking through cook books and baking supplies at Good Egg in Kensington Market, we came across a very cute book entitled Pâtisseries à Paris, published by Paumes. Yes, this book is in Japanese, but we couldn’t resist purchasing it because it’s just too adorable!

This book features many famous pâtisseries in Paris, including Pierre Hermé, Ladurée, Angelina, Sadaharu Aoki, Carette, etc. With so many beautiful photos of cakes, macarons, tartlettes, éclairs, and chocolates, it was impossible to put the book back down at the store. Although the writing is in Japanese for the most part, the addresses are not – so that’s still helpful for our upcoming visit to Paris this July! 🙂

Le Dolci will be going to Paris this July, and there is still one more spot left for this fun foodie trip! Along with us, there will be many interesting activities to participate in, such as learning how to bake French pastries and going on tours. You’ll get the chance to make your own bread, croissants, and éclairs! Additionally, there will be optional tasting dinners and cruises to take part in. On this trip, there will also be free afternoons and evenings for you to explore Paris, and visit many of the lovely pâtisseries listed in this book! To find out more about the Paris trip, visit http://www.ledolci.com/paris-2012!

Things we love: Cheeseburger Cupcakes

At Le Dolci, we love creativity and especially when it has to do with sweet treats! We came across this little article on Cheeseburger Cupcakes from the Trend Hunter website, and knew we had to share this cute idea. They’re fun to eat for all ages and will definitely have everyone going “Oohhh” and “Aahhh”.

KatDW included step-by-step photos on her Flickr account about the process, which is extremely helpful. Kate actually came up with the idea of sharing this guide after being surprised by her boyfriend with these unique cheeseburger cupcakes.

Whether it’s for a party or a gathering, your family and friends will be impressed by your baking skills. They’re fun to make, sweet to taste, and amazing to look at!

Things we love: Cupcake Knitted Hats

We love to discover all things cupcakes here at Le Dolci, and Etsy is one of our favourite websites in finding gorgeous and unique products. We stumbled upon Martha Johnson’s shop featuring knitted hats and she has several knitted cupcake hats for children! WE LUV!

These hats are way too cute to not share with our Le Dolci friends. Even though it’s summer here in Canada, that doesn’t mean these cupcake hats are out of the question! Dress your toddlers up with these pretty hats for a photo shoot or simply to look even more adorable than they already are.

Besides cupcakes as a theme, Martha also does several other patterns. Flowers, fishes, and stripes can all be found at her etsy store.

Things we love: Rosewood Winery & Our New Mead Wine & Honey Tasting Class

Le Dolci has partnered up with Rosewood Estates Winery in Niagara, a  family-owned business that is very passionate about what they do. Rosewood was nominated in Inter-Vin Wine Competition as one of the Top 10 Wineries and has won over 65 awards in different wine competitions.

Besides their famous estate wines such as the 2009 Süssreserve Riesling and 2010 Sémillon, Rosewood also makes meads, honey, and candles.

Oh, and something to look forward to is our NEW Honey & Mead (honey wine) tasting classes! What is mead you ask? Made from the fermentation of honey and water, mead (or honey wine) was the earliest form of drinkable alcohol

The first class will be held on July 12th. Kyrstina Roman, will be leading the Honey & Mead tasting classes here at Le Dolci. There will be several of their wines for tasting and Kyrstina will describe the characteristics of each one. She will also be bringing in different types of honey, such as buckwheat and wildflower honey, and will explain the differences between the various kinds.

Additionally, there will be small treats for the wine pairing, such as cheese or wine-infused cupcakes. We’re very excited and hopefully you are too!

Things We Love: Organic and Fair Trade Chocolate

We love chocolate here at Le Dolci, so whenever we find a place that carries unique flavours, we can go a little crazy. We’ve recently discovered The Mercantile in Roncesvalles. The Mercantile sells organic food, teas, and let’s not forget, chocolate! We were in heaven after spotting so many different brands of organic and fair trade chocolate that we purchased maybe a little too many 🙂

Besides a taste that is nothing short of divine, it’s also good to know where and what type of chocolate we’re buying. Due to the recent studies on organic and natural food, it’s nice to know that we can make the right choices when it comes to even sweet treats!

So what is Fair Trade? Fair Trade Canada describes it as being a different way of doing business – it’s about making principles of fairness and decency mean something in the marketplace. Fair trade allows farmers and artisans to get a better deal for their products. This is usually understood to mean better prices for producers, but it often means longer-term and more meaningful trading relationships too. Fair Trade is a way for us to identify products that meet our values so we can make choices that have a positive impact on the world.
