A Culinary Adventure to San Francisco and the Napa Valley!

Dear Friends,
Happy New Year from Team Le Dolci!
We’ve been busy working on creating a magical foodie tour for you this coming spring. This May, we invite you to join us on a delectable Culinary Adventure to San Francisco and the Napa Valley!

Read our itinerary below and join us for some foodie fun!

Arrivals in San Francisco 
You are welcome to arrive a few days early, to explore San Francisco on your own before your culinary adventure begins. Our tour manager will provide you with a welcome package full of information, helpful documents and information for the rest of your week with Le Dolci and our sister company  A San Francisco Bay Area metro pass will be included in this package for you to hop on and off the easy to navigate public transportation system. Our tour manager will also be available to answer any questions or recommend places for your first days in San Francisco.

DAY 1 – Sunday
Check into our specially selected hotel right in the heart of downtown San Francisco.  For the first evening, we welcome you to the Le Dolci culinary tour with an intimate dinner at a local downtown San Francisco restaurant.  You will get to know your culinary adventure travel mates and talk about the exciting week ahead over gourmet delights and enticing Napa Valley wines.  Welcome dinner and estate vineyard wine included. Accommodation: Hotel Rex -Union Square

DAY 2  – Monday 20
This morning we will begin with a food and tasting tour of one of the most celebrated food districts in the city – the Mission District.  This lively neighborhood is a food lover’s paradise serving anything from delicate lavender and cardamom ice cream to authentic Argentinian empanadas and Baja style fish tacos. Our knowledgeable local guide will escort you through this beautiful neighborhood as we taste the many sweet and savory specialties of the area.

In the afternoon, we will head off to a sourdough bread making class with a local artisanal bread company.  This savory San Francisco food icon has been a part of northern California’s culture since the mid 1800’s. We will learn about the perfect sourdough starter and get hands on experience with dough handling, scoring and shaping. Learn the secrets of creating the perfect crusty loaf while maintaining that ever elusive buttery center.  We will enjoy our fresh baked loaves after class or try out one of the Mission district’s delicious local taquerias.
The evening is free to explore the city on your own or join the Le Dolci hosts at a hidden local wine bar serving regional wines and cocktails.

DAY 3 – Tuesday – San Francisco
The San Francisco Ferry Building was modeled after the famous Pike Place market in Seattle.  It is where some of the best chocolate, bread and cheese shops are housed. And the delicious excitement is heightened with Tuesday’s Farmers Market which brings together local farmers and artisans in the area to create a one of a kind food experience.  In the Ferry Building, we will have another fabulous food and tastings tour of local fare such as the chocolate tomboy cake from Miette, the soft Mt “Tam” cheese from Cowgirl Creamery & we’ll pop in to say hi to our friends at Acme Bread Company for more treats.

In the afternoon we take the ferry across the bay to the charming village of Tiburon. There is an optional seaside bike ride to Paradise Cove where guests will see sights such as the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Angel Island as well as the San Francisco skyline. You may choose to come bike on the trail with us or explore this lovely little village on you own by foot.
In the late afternoon, we will head back across the bay by ferry to explore one of SF’s best kept “down and dirty” culinary secrets.  This will be an experience not to be missed.

DAY 4 – Wednesday  – San Francisco / Napa Valley
Hop aboard our luxury coach and spend the morning enjoying locally roasted coffee and scrumptious pastries with us while we travel to the gorgeous Napa Valley.  Once there, we will enjoy a picnic lunch on a private estate vineyard taking in the scenery and enjoying some local wine.  Once settled in, we will begin our tour and tastings at two amazing Napa Valley wineries. We will learn about the art of wine making as the grape travels from vine to bottle from some of the top wine makers in the region. We will then check into our hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif.

In the early evening we will take a short stroll through charming downtown St. Helena. There is an optional dinner this evening at a family owned Napa Valley gem that features an authentic and creative farm-to-table menu highlighting local, seasonal and organic ingredients at their peak freshness.

DAY 5 – Thursday
On our second day in the Napa Valley, we will attend an exclusive culinary class where we will get our aprons on and learn the secrets from the wine region’s most knowledgeable chefs at a wonderful cooking school. While being a chef in training for a day, you will be served fine wines like the delicate Pinot Noirs that this region is famous for.  You will also get familiar with the crisp, clean tastes of Sauvignon Blanc and buttery french oak Chardonnays. Every great chef needs a little bit of vino while cooking, right?

Tonight we celebrate our new friends, our new found knowledge of food and wine and our last night in Napa. At our farewell dinner we take you to one of the top restaurants in the area and we have a feast fit for royalty.

DAY 6  – Friday
On our last morning in Napa, we have time to explore some of St. Helena’s secret foodie spots after breakfast. We then head back to San Francisco aboard our luxury coach where you will have the afternoon free to explore San Francisco further and and finish up any last minute souvenir shopping. There will be an airport transfer en route back to San Francisco for any of our guests departing that evening. And, we have arranged for baggage to be held for any guests who wish to spend their afternoon exploring San Francisco before departures.

We are your personal travel Concierge
During your heavenly week of food tastings & experimentation in the kitchen with us you will have a full time Le Dolci ‘concierge’ with you. That’s what we like to call our guides as they are super friendly, knowledgeable about local culture, history and are truly entertaining; some are even known to tell some fine jokes and can help with every detail of your sojourn with us. The trip’s activities have been hand picked by a local expert and curated to make it a truly special, once in a lifetime foodie experience. Past Le Dolci trips have brought travelers from around the world together for a memorable and entertaining week where great friendships were made and many laughs were shared. We limit space to 10 guests to ensure an intimate and interactive experience.

Pricing includes accommodation for 3 nights at The Rex in San Francisco & 2 nights at Wydown Hotel in St. Helena, all tours, BART transit pass for the San Francisco Metro, return ferry transfers to Tiburon, select meals and drinks as listed on the itinerary, all transfers to and from the Napa Valley, airport transfer en route back from the Napa Valley, baggage storage on day 6, and a personal concierge service from your Le Dolci host before departure and during your entire journey with us. A souvenir CD of photos will be sent to each guest upon return to their home city.

Our next Sweet Foodie Adventure will be to San Francisco and the Napa Valley from May 19-24th, 2013.

We will visit some of the Bay Area’s best food artisans including Miette where we’ll sample a slice of their Raspberry Tomboy cake (see pic), then head for 3 days and two nights to Napa to taste wines, olive oils, have hands on fun and dine at Thomas Keller’s world famous restaurants.

Sneak Peek! PARIS Foodie Trip July 2012!

A culinary adventure in Paris!

If you like to get your hands dirty experimenting in the kitchen, love exploring specialist food shops and taking in historic walking tours, then this is the tour for you. Paris is one of the world’s fabled destinations for gourmands! This tour includes a week of hands-on culinary classes, working side by side with classically trained French chefs you will learn to make some of the most desirable French treats like macarons, croissants, and baguettes. After you have mastered the art of French baking you will participate in themed walks and activities, taking in some of the city’s most atmospheric districts and markets and dine at some of the city’s best kept gastronomic secrets.

Group size is limited to 10 people for an intimate experience. There is also plenty of free time scheduled for visits to world-class museums, galleries and to savour some of the wonderful shopping, restaurants and brasseries that the city has to offer.

For gourmet food, there can be no other country in the world quite like France, and Paris, of course, is the capital of it all. There is so much to see and do, you will leave Paris with sore feet, but having had a taste, you will want to come back for more. It is everything you imagine it to be, romantic, inspiring, vibrant even outrageous, but best of all Paris is simply unique.

We at Le Dolci love to travel and love to share, that is why we’d love to show you some of our favourite foodie spots. On all of our world travels we have met the most wonderful food producers, suppliers, farmers and food lovers and we want to introduce you to this inspirational bunch.

This year our foodie trips will take us further afield where you’ll have to bring your passport. Paris, London & Sicily is where we used to live, love and eat so we will use Europe as a starting point, well… starting with the City of Lights, Paris in 2012!

Our trips are designed to educate, amaze and entertain you and we’re excited to show you some of our favourite places.

Our first foodie trip will be in Paris from Monday July 23rd to Friday July 28th. Five days filled with daily hands on workshops and culinary adventures. We are partnering with La Cuisine Paris, the most wonderful little school in Paris, located in the heart of the city! At La Cuisine they will teach us how to make:

  • Parisian macarons
  • Baguettes
  • Choux Pastry
  • Pain au Chocolat
  • Le Croissant
  • and more….

As part of this foodie exploration, you will spend mornings in the kitchen with the most talented Parisian pastry chefs and in the afternoons you will explore Paris’s foodie haunts, gems and places that only the locals know about. Keep checking this page as more details to follow shortly!
