REEL EATS: “Chocolat”

REEL EATS: Hear, Smell, Taste, Touch and Watch What You Eat

REAL EATS is held monthly, where chefs and food lovers gather together for a gastronomic film, story-telling, and delicious food! The events take place at some of the top restaurant venues around the GTA. At last night’s sold out event, the film featured was “CHOCOLAT” , directed by Lasse Hallström and starring Juliette Binoche and Johnny Depp. The six course Chocolat-inspired menu was created by the talented Chocolatier and pâtissier Chef Bruno Elsier, along with Aphrodite Cooks’ Chef Vanessa Yeung.

The evening’s menu featured an array of sweet and savory dishes. A few of the favorite dishes enjoyed over the course of the evening were the “Our Serious Mayor’s French Shallot and Lentil Cream Soup with Cocoa Butter” as well as the dessert tasting which included “Shades and Heat of Chocolate”, “White Chocolate Mousse with Lime” and “Creme Brulee of Milk Chocolate and Dark”. All dishes were to die for, you could tell that a great deal of time and effort went into the planning of each menu item.

Throughout the evening we had the privilege of listening to three story tellers, each told us a very different story that related back to food. Some were stories about personal adventures, while others were creative poems about “the art of eating” and “food”. One of these fabulous story tellers was our very own Macaron Queen Mardi Michels, who spoke about her fascinating adventures overseas in Paris.

At the end of the night, guests had their tickets drawn for an amazing raffle and were given a delicious chocolate cupcake topped with butter cream icing and a cocoa infused macaron with marshmellow filling courtesy of Le Dolci. Overall, the evening was a great success! The menu, atmosphere, guests and volunteers made it a night to remember.

REEL EATS’ next event will be held on April 21st for MONSOON WEDDING! The menu will consist of an all vegetarian style feast that will be prepared by none other than Arvinda’s Spices Preena Chauhan and vegetarian food authority, Nettie Cronish. This is not a night to miss!
