Want to learn how to decorate a beautiful cake without having to spend hours baking first? Our cake decorating classes at Le Dolci Culinary School in Toronto let you jump straight into the fun part: decorating!
Whether you're a complete beginner, a Taylor Swift fan, a JellyCat collector, or an experienced baker looking to level up your piping skills, we have a cake decorating class for you.
Here are some of the most common questions about our cake decorating classes.
Is this class suitable for beginners?
It depends on which cake you choose!
Our Introduction to Cake Decorating (Perfect Disaster Cake), Buttercream Flower Cake, Taylor Swift Cake, and both JellyCat Amuseables classes are all beginner-friendly. No previous cake decorating experience is needed.
Our Lambeth Buttercream Masterclass is designed for intermediate-level bakers who already have some piping experience.
How long is the class?
Most of our cake decorating classes at Le Dolci Culinary School Toronto are 2 hours.
The Lambeth Buttercream Masterclass runs for 3 hours to allow enough time to practice its more advanced piping techniques.
Do I need to bake anything myself?
No! In every one of our cake decorating classes, your cake is pre-baked and your buttercream is pre-made, so you can jump straight into the fun part: decorating.
Our chefs will guide you through the techniques and help you work at a comfortable pace.
What will I actually make?
Each class has its own unique design and experience:
Introduction to Cake Decorating: You'll create a "Perfect Disaster Cake," an intentionally imperfect and playful design focused on building real decorating techniques without the pressure of perfection.
Lambeth Buttercream Masterclass: You'll create a round vanilla Lambeth-style cake using advanced piping techniques.
Buttercream Flower Cake: You'll decorate a vanilla cake with your own hand-piped buttercream flowers and leaves.
Taylor Swift Cake: You'll create a Swiftie-themed cake featuring a piped friendship bracelet design and colourful buttercream details.
JellyCat Amuseables Birthday Cake / Heart Cake: You'll create a fondant-sculpted cake inspired by the JellyCat Amuseables collection, available in a round or heart shape.
Will I get the recipes afterward?
Yes! Recipes are emailed to you, although the timing varies slightly by class. Some are sent at the time of booking, while others are sent before class.
Depending on the class, recipes may include vanilla cake, American buttercream, and a bonus Swiss meringue buttercream recipe.
Do I need to bring anything with me?
No! All ingredients, equipment, and transport boxes are provided across our cake decorating classes.
Just bring your creativity and get ready to decorate.
Is the studio accessible?
Classes may be held in our upstairs studio, which is accessible by stairs only. If you need accommodation, please email us in advance and we'll do our best to help.
Our downstairs studio is wheelchair accessible, but our table heights are higher than usual for cooking purposes. Please email us in advance to discuss if we can accommodate you.
Not sure if this class is right for me. What should I do?
If you're ever unsure whether a class is the right fit for you, feel free to call us and chat it through before booking.
